If you're a creator of a blog or website about food or cooking, no doubt you've heard of the benefits of using such social networking sites as Myspace, Facebook, and YouTube for bringing new readers to your site.

However, did you know that if the posts and pages on your foodie website regularly feature high quality digital camera photographs of the food and meals you discuss there, these very photos can also serve as a valuable tool that can help you get your website noticed by others with similar interests?

The way you make those photos work for you is by submitting them to popular online food gallery blogs. (I'll tell you where to find these blogs in the tips below.)

One major benefit of submitting your food photos to these sites, is that unlike general interest social networking sites, the people who regularly visit these sites are mostly fellow food bloggers and foodies looking for inspiration for their blog posts and in their kitchens.

Even better, the mouthwatering photos you see are likely to end up inspiring future blog posts of your own.

Here's what to do...

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a food related blog or website
  • high quality food photos that have appeared on your blog or website
  • A valid e-mail address
  • Digital camera
  1. Step 1

Look through the recently published pages of your blog or website and note which pages feature high quality photos related to the culinary topics you discuss.

(If you're unsure how to take great photos of food, or are looking for fresh inspiration for your future photos, please see the link to our eHow article: How to Photograph Food Like a Pro for Your Blog or Website in the Resource Section below, or click on the *See my other articles* link that appears towards the top right of this page.)

  2. Step 2

Submitting Your Food Photos and Related Website Links to Online Food Galleries:

Many of these frequently updated food galleries are published in a blog format which means that they tend to constantly need fresh photos and links to showcase. For a list of a few of these online food photo galleries, please see the Resources Section below.

  3. Step 3

In most cases, you will first need to register free of charge with those sites using a valid e-mail address and password. Doing this will also speed up any future photo submissions you make.

  4. Step 4

Since you're trying to promote your website or blog, the next thing you'll want to do is to fill out your profile making sure to list your website's link in the space provided, as well as any related information about the site to make it easier for others to find your site.

Of course, you should answer all profile questions truthfully and be careful not to spam...you want to find new readers, not alienate them.

  5. Step 5

Now that you are logged in, most of these sites will have a link which you can use to submit your photos to their gallery as well as a link to your original blog post or webpage which contains those photos.

Follow all the photo submission requirements (ie. some sites prefer photos to be 250x250 pixels, most limit the number of photos you can submit each day, etc.).

    That's it! :)

Tips & Warnings
  • For a list of a few online food galleries, please check out the links in the Resources Section below.
  • Keep in mind that the best and most popular food galleries are also the most picky so your food photos may not be featured on their site at first. However, practice makes perfect, and a tour of these galleries will soon reveal what photos they tend to favor so you can join in on the fun and get your photos accepted and featured on those sites.
  • Additionally, you might also want to create a free Flickr account so you can share your food photos there.
  • Don't forget to add your foodie photos to the Pics Area of your Myspace page. Once you do that, you'll be able to quickly create a photo slideshow to add visual excitement to your Myspace page.
