With little effort, you can turn an ordinary sock into a beautiful homemade stocking. All you need to get started is a sock, a few items from a catchall drawer or a sewing basket.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sock
  • Fabric marker
  • Stencil or cookie cutters
  • Felt letters
  • Glue gun
  • Beads
  • Buttons
  • Sequins
  • Miniature ornaments
  • Bells
  • Ribbons and bows
  1. Step 1

Choose a stencil, a large cookie cutter or several smaller cookie cutters. If you are creating stockings for the entire family, you may want to select something based on their hobbies such as golf, tennis, little league, girl scouts or cheerleading. Christmas pictures such as Santa Claus, wreaths, reindeer, Christmas trees and snowmen make beautiful, colorful stockings as well.

  2. Step 2

Place your stencil or cookie cutter evenly over your sock and trace it with your fabric marker. You may want to consider red, green or gold for fabric markers.

  3. Step 3

Leave an inch or two from the top of the stocking and glue a colorful holiday ribbon around each stocking. Assemble and spell out each family members name with the felt letters and center and glue them on top of the ribbon.

  4. Step 4

Add your decorations and the final touches to your Christmas stocking by gluing the beads, buttons, sequins, ornaments and bells into place. Consider using buttons or sequins for the eyes of snowmen, Santa and the reindeer.

  5. Step 5

Finish your stockings by attaching a large colorful bow.
