Since hot tubs are unusual in size and weight, shipping them from one location to the next is not always easy. If you want to ship a hot tub, contacting a shipping or moving company that's experienced in shipping large items is the best way to ensure that the hot tub arrives on time and in good condition. Below are steps you can take to save time and money when shipping a hot tub.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

How to Ship a Hot Tub

  1. Step 1

Contact moving or shipping companies that specialize in moving large items from one place to the next. Obtain estimates and delivery dates so you can compare companies. Choose a company that has experience moving large or irregularly shaped items.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the hot tub in foam or clear plastic to prevent cracking or chipping during transport. Most moving companies can assist in wrapping the hot tub. Place cardboard around the electrical components located at the back of the hot tub.

  3. Step 3

Lift the hot tub onto a pallet for easy removal. You can do this with three or more people or you can use electrical equipment to lift the tub onto the pallet. Plywood sheets can also be used to move the hot tub from one place to another. Place sheets on the ground to create a smooth surface. Instead of lifting the hot tub, push it over the plywood sheets.

  4. Step 4

Use shrink wrap to secure the tub to the pallet.

  5. Step 5

Place the hot tub onto a flat bed truck or moving truck carefully. Make sure the tub is secure so it won't move around during transport. Use rope or ties to secure the hot tub.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure the hot tub is secure in the moving truck using rope or other restraints so electrical components are not damaged during transport.
