How to Reset Oil Change Warning on a Trailblazer

You're on the road enjoying a drive in your Trailblazer, when suddenly you hear a "ding ding", and a yellow light flashes on your console. It is your oil change warning light. The problem is that you recently had your oil changed and so you know that the warning is incorrect. So how do you turn this annoying light off without making a special trip to the mechanic? This article will give you a couple methods to reset the oil change warning light on your Trailblazer.

Things You'll Need

  • Car Keys
  • Adjustable Wrench

First Method- 3 Pumps

  • Insert car keys into ignition. Turn the keys clockwise so that the car turns on, but the engine remains OFF.

  • Press the gas pedal all the way to the floor 3 times. Do this quickly--within a few seconds of turning the key.

  • Turn the keys counter-clockwise to the OFF position.

  • Turn the keys clockwise again, but this time start the engine.

  • After the car starts wait a few seconds and the oil change warning light should be off.

Second Method- The Battery

  • Open the hood of your Trailblazer and find the negative battery terminal.

  • Using the adjustable wrench to loosen the bolt at the end of the cable, disconnect the battery cable from the negative battery terminal.

  • Wait for at least 15 minutes--this is to give the vehicle's computer systems time to reset.

  • Reconnect the battery cable to the negative battery terminal by reattaching it and tightening it with the wrench.

  • Start the car and wait a few seconds to see if the oil change warning light is off.

Tips & Warnings

  • If these methods do not work then consider going to a mechanic to ensure your sensors, lights and engine are all functioning properly.
