How to Tie a Slipknot for a Necklace

This easy slipknot is perfect for necklaces, but you can also use it on any kind of cord or rope. The object of tying this knot is to be able to adjust a necklace to a number of sizes without having to untie the slipknot.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two pieces of cord or rope

    How to Tie a Slipknot for a Necklace

  1. Step 1

    Overlap the ends of the two pieces of cord by about 4 inches.

  2. Step 2

    Hold about 1 inch of the overlap together, one cord on top and one on the bottom.

  3. Step 3

    Tie a regular overhand knot around the bottom cord with the top cord. You should still have a few inches of the end of the bottom cord hanging out of the knot.

  4. Step 4

    Take the bottom cord and tie a regular overhand knot around the top cord. Tighten both knots.

  5. Step 5

    Try to slide both knots back and forth. Both knots should move freely to resize the necklace.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't tie the knots too tight! The knots will not slide freely.
