Pipe cleaners make creative stocking stuffers and provide entertainment on a long car trip. Let your children create and recreate stories and practice their fine motor skills as they make spiders with pipe cleaners. Make them simple, with no accessories except your pipe cleaners, or make them more complex with glue and eyes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 pipe cleaners
  • Googly eyes (optional)
  • Glue gun
  • String (optional)
  1. Step 1

Select up to four colors you want for your spider and find those colors in your pipe cleaner bag. Put one pipe cleaner aside.

  2. Step 2

Gather the three remaining pipe cleaners in a bunch. Fold the entire group in half then unfold.

  3. Step 3

Pick up the fourth pipe cleaner you set aside, fold it in half and then unfold. Put it under the group of the other three pipe cleaners on so its center fold is lined up like a cross to their center folds.

  4. Step 4

Pinch the fourth pipe cleaner together on top of the other three and twist to make it tight so you wrap the three others together.

  5. Step 5

Spread all the pipe cleaner ends apart since these are the legs. Put a bend in each leg approximately one inch from the center on each leg.

  6. Step 6

Make your spider body thicker if you want by twisting the legs around the center. This also shortens the legs.

  7. Step 7

Glue on googly eyes if desired. You can also use the spider as a puppet by wrapping a fifth pipe cleaner around the center or by looping string around it.
