Instructions

    • 1

Draw a wide triangle on a piece of poster board cut to 12 by 18 inches. The bottom edge of the triangle should be slightly rounded for a perfect fit. For best results, experiment with the shape and size of your party hat on a piece of newspaper before you use up your precious poster board.

    • 2

Decorate your triangle shape with glitter, glue, ribbons, markers, crayons or anything else you might have on hand, allowing the glue to dry thoroughly. Use your imagination to make a one of a kind party hat for your special occasion.

    • 3

Cut and curl multiple colors of curling ribbon, collecting the pieces together and tying a tight knot in the middle. Attach the knot of the ribbons to the inside tip of the triangle with either a staple or hot glue, arranging the ribbons so that they will poke out the top of the hat.

    • 4

Apply a line of hot glue to one edge of the triangle and then curve the poster board into a cone, overlapping the edges. Make sure you hold the edges together firmly as the glue dries.

    • 5

Align the hat so that the glued edges are facing backwards and punch a hole on either side of the hat with a paper punch, lining the holes up just above the ears. Loop and tie a piece of thin elastic through the holes, completing your unique and festive party hat.
