Karaoke music can be hard to find, not to mention expensive. However, creating your own is free and simple. Using music you already have and free music on the Web, you can create your very own karaoke music for your next karaoke party.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • MIDI files
  • MIDI Karaoke Player from vanBasco (free to download)
  1. Step 1

Download and install vanBasco’s MIDI Karaoke Player (see Resources below). MIDI files are easy to find and normally free. You won’t have to pay to download like you do with MP3 files.

  2. Step 2

Familiarize yourself with the tools and features of the MIDI Karaoke Player software. There are six different screens. One is the main player; the one below shows lyrics if available. The piano shows the actual notes being played in the song, which is great if you want to learn to play the song as well. The playlist is to the right, and by using drop-down menus, you can browse your computer for files. The MIDI Output screen shows you which instruments are being played. Each instrument can be turned on or off as desired. The final screen lets you control the tempo, key and pitch of the song.

  3. Step 3

Use your own MIDI files or choose from the songs that come with the player. To view the lyrics, you must download karaoke MIDI files. These files also tend to sound better than regular MIDI. Use your favorite search engine to search for “free karaoke midi.” One of the best places to search is on the vanBasco website.

  4. Step 4

Open the vanBasco player. Use the playlist screen to browse for the desired file. Click the file and click the "Add" button on the playlist. Double-click the song to play it.

  5. Step 5

Change the tempo, key and pitch to better fit your voice. You can also remove any instruments you don’t like from the song using the red buttons on the MIDI Output screen. This is especially helpful to remove the melody or vocal part from some MIDI files.

  6. Step 6

Create your very own playlist, gather some friends and sing along.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to use MP3 files as karaoke files, you will need different software. The only difference is that you need to remove or lessen the volume of the vocals using the application’s tools. You can find free applications by searching the Internet for “create free karaoke music.”
  • Use caution when downloading any files. Be sure to scan with virus software.
  • Be sure to download legally.
