Head scarves are a girl's best friend--they disguise a bad hair day, keep strands in place when winds kick up, add style to an outfit and allow the wearer to reinvent herself with a couple of folds and a tie. The same scarf can be worn various ways depending on the desired look. Read on to learn how to tie a head scarf.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you're going for a funky urban/gypsy look, start with a rectangular or larger square scarf. Fold it in half to form a triangle, and then again to form a smaller triangle. Smooth the long portion across your forehead and tie the ends in a knot under your hair. Let the long lengths hang free. For a softer look, tie the scarf a bit more loosely and allow some of your hairline to show.

  2. Step 2

For a glamorous look, begin by folding a square scarf in half to form a triangle. Drape it just above your hairline, allowing the triangle's point to fall to the back of your head. Cross the two dangling ends around the front of your neck and, if desired, tie them in a knot.

  3. Step 3

To wear your head scarf as a headband, fold it lengthwise until you have achieved the thickness you desire. Lay the center of the scarf across your hairline and keep it in place as you hang your head upside down. Ensuring all strands are flipped forward, tie the scarf's ends in a knot at the back of your head. Once secure, flip your head back up and style your swept-back hair as desired. The scarf headband can be tied toward the front for a different look.
