If your jacket or coat refuses to zip, here are some easy techniques that can help you fix the problem.
Things You'll Need
- hand soap
- olive or vegetable oil
How to Fix a Zipper on a Coat
If you encounter a zipper that will not budge, lay the item of clothing on a flat surface. This will help align the zipper with its teeth. Give the zipper a sharp tug. Do not pull too tightly as you could permanently damage the zipper.
If the zipper does not work after giving it a sharp tug, apply hand soap (bar soap or liquid soap) to the zipper and its teeth. You can use the soap on both sides if you want. This should create enough lubrication for the zipper to begin working properly again.
Cold wax can also be used to fix a zipper that's stuck. Any time of type of colorless wax will do. Rub the wax on the zipper head and the teeth.
If the zipper is stuck or caught on the fabric of the clothing item, using a drop of vegetable or olive oil on the zipper head can help loosen it from the fabric and realign it.
If all else fails, take the clothing item to your local dry cleaner as they should be able to help fix the zipper or they will be able to replace it for you for a small fee.
