Host a "Sex and the City" Luncheon Party

All of you "Sex and the City" fans are well aware that the movie of the same name will be out in just a few days.
Why not celebrate the opening of the movie and just how fabulous you and your friends are, by having a "Sex and the City " luncheon! You might plan to enjoy the party and then head out with all your friends to see the movie. What fun!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Downloadable pictures of the cast of the movie, the NY city skyline, a cosmopolitan cocktail, Manolo Blahnik shoes, icons from the show that you can use to make clever invitations or posters
  • The ingredients and recipe for cosmo cocktails, easily found on the web
  • Martini glasses
  • Recipes for simple and delicious appetizers, or take out Chinese food, a la Miranda
  • An appropriate prize for the winner of an impromptu S&tC trivia game
  1. Step 1

Make invitations using downloadable pictures from the show, or email invitations to all your favorite Carries, Mirandas, Charlottes, and Samanthas. Make sure everyone knows to dress in their most S&tC looking clothes, and, of course, shoes!

  2. Step 2

Blow up pictures you have printed, such as the NYC skyline, the cosmo cocktail, Manolo Blahnik shoes, etc. and make posters to put up in the area where you are having the party.

  3. Step 3

Have plenty of cosmopolitan cocktails and delicious appetizers ready to serve as soon as the guests hit your door.
This is not a party for handfuls of nuts and chips. You need little slivers of delectable food that look as polished as they taste.
Allow six to eight bites per person and mix hot with cold. Make the canapés in advance – after all, there’s no point having a party you can’t enjoy.
    • Toss thin slices of crisp apple or pear in a little lemon juice to keep them from turning brown, then top each with a small scoop of Stilton cheese pressed into a walnut half.
    • Chill some butter in the fridge or freezer. Clean and trim firm radishes, slicing off the root, but leaving an inch of leaf stalks. Make a slit in the radish with a knife and push into each a sliver of cold butter. Pass with a bowl of rock salt to dip into.
    • Boil some small unpeeled potatoes. When done, leave them to cool, take a small slice off the bottom of each so the potato can stand then scoop out a hollow. Fill with sour cream and add a dollop of lumpfish roe on top – or caviar, if you can afford it. These are best served at room temperature, but it’s fine to serve them cold as well. You could substitute the caviar with tiny pieces of sun-dried tomato.
    • Marinate cubes of chicken breast in lemon juice, olive oil and a very generous quantity of herbes de Provence. Grill on grill pan until cooked through and turning brown at the edges, then serve with cocktail sticks and a bowl of garlicky mayonnaise.
    • Bake small rounds of a French baguette until golden, then spread with various crostini toppings such as cooked white cannellini beans coarsely mashed and topped with torn strips of basil and a trickle of olive oil.
    • Make guacamole boats: halve cherry tomatoes, scoop out the seeds and discard. Fill the hollows with guacamole. Just before the guests arrive, snap the corners off triangular nachos and stick them into the tomatoes to make sails.

  4. Step 4

Take the time before the party to watch old episodes of the show and create a trivia game, making it as easy or difficult as you choose. Since you know the answers, you ask the questions and the guest who gets the most answers correct wins a prize, something appropriate, such as a book about the show or a box set of dvds of the show.
