Your kids will love making pretend pumpkin pies and other goodies with their very own pumpkin pie play dough, and it will make your entire house smell like Thanksgiving. The only problem is that the play dough smells so good that you'll have to remind your kids that it's just for play.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups salt
  • 5 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 8 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 oz. container pumpkin pie spice
  • 4 cups water
  • Yellow and red food coloring
  1. Step 1

Mix the flour, salt and pumpkin pie spice and cream of tartar in a large saucepan and heat the mixture over medium heat.

  2. Step 2

Stir in the vegetable oil and water, and mix until all of the ingredients are incorporated.

  3. Step 3

Blend in 2 parts of yellow food coloring to 1 part red food coloring to color the pumpkin pie play dough orange.

  4. Step 4

Continue cooking the pumpkin pie play dough until no more lumps remain.

  5. Step 5

Put the pumpkin pie play dough on a lightly floured surface and knead it until it's very smooth.

  6. Step 6

Keep the pumpkin pie play dough in a sealed plastic container or resealable plastic bag between uses so it won't dry out. It will keep longer when stored in the refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you prefer to use orange food coloring, you can purchase it at a store that carries cake decorating supplies.
  • Because of the high salt content, pumpkin pie play dough should be kept away from pets.
