Things You'll Need:
- Bleach
- Vinegar
- Baking soda
- Tang
-
Step 1
Clean drains regularly by removing or sliding out the bottom tray and reaching in to take out any food, paper or other junk by hand. A clogged drain will keep your dishwasher from cleaning well, and debris can fly back up and make your dishes dirtier and unsanitary.
-
Step 2
Load the dishwasher so that the spray arms are not blocked by any large items, such as pans or mixing bowls. This will allow the water to circulate and distribute evenly.
-
Step 3
Run the dishwasher empty with a cup of bleach thrown into it. This will kill any mold that might be growing in it, keeping it from efficiently cleaning and sanitizing your dishes.
-
Step 4
Place a bowl of equal parts baking soda and vinegar right side up on the top shelf of your dishwasher and run it empty to remove built-up soap scum, discoloration, and just to generally clean it.
-
Step 5
Pour a container of Tang orange drink powder into the dishwasher, and once again run it empty, if you have rust to rid. Believe it or not, the Tang will do the trick.
