Having the right equipment in your professional recording studio is vitally important to your business. Without high quality equipment, you won't get high quality sound and that is exactly what your clients expect. You also need to make sure your equipment is set up correctly to avoid any problems.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read through the complete user's manual to learn all of the components of the Digidesign rack and patch bay. You should also be familiar with the warranty. Consider joining the user forums at the Digidesign website to interact with other Digidesign owners about the functionality of the system.

  2. Step 2

Understand what the patch bay does. It takes the sound, or track, from one piece of equipment to another such as the sounds from a keyboard directly into the ProTools program on the PC. This comes in handy frequently during the recording process, especially with a sound that does not need to be converted in any way.

  3. Step 3

Know the specifics of the Digidesign Rack. It is fire wire based and a smaller, cheaper, simpler version of the Digidesign 002. It was designed to be portable and still offers the compatibility with ProTools as its larger cousin, but for half the price and no control surface.

  4. Step 4

Become familiar with the functions of both the patch bay and rack, keeping in mind they will need to be part of a larger set up in order to work properly. Take operating advice from the user manual and other Digidesign users to explore all the possibilities your rack and patch bay has.
