Things You'll Need:
- garden hose
-
Step 1
Make a paint can grip by cutting a short length of the hose and slitting it down the middle. Wrap the hose around the paint can handle.
-
Step 2
Cover your child's swings with the hose. Either slip the chain through the hose or cut a slit on one side and slide it over the chain. If need be, close the slit with duct tape.
-
Step 3
Capture earwigs by cutting the hose into small 10 inch lengths. Place the hose pieces where you have seen earwigs crawling around and leave them overnight. The next morning the hoses should be filled with earwigs and you can just throw them away.
-
Step 4
A short length of old garden hose is a great tie for a young tree. Put a piece of wiring inside the hose then wrap the hose around the tree and then the stake.
-
Step 5
If you have a flock of messy birds in your backyard, cut a short length of hose and lay it in your grass like a snake. The birds will be fooled and will stay away.
-
Step 6
When your downspout gets clogged use the hose to push through the leaves and debris.
-
Step 7
Protect your handsaw blade and keep it sharp by putting a length of garden hose on it. Just cut a piece of hose to the length you need, and slit it on the side and then put that over the blade teeth.

on 7/18/2009 I have repurposed old hoses into tree anchors, but had not thought of using them on chains and handles. What hoses I don’t cut up for use in my garden I have given to my sister who makes wreaths using them. For low cost garden start ideas, check out some of my ehow gardening articles.
