There is nothing worse than your home or car smelling like a bar. Also it is bad when you are trying to rent or sell a home or rent out a motel/hotel room. I am sure this article will help teenagers well its not meant to :) Any questions or concerns please e-mail me if I don't know the answer I will find out. Thanks, Jami

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • You will need several little things, you can get almost all of them at the Dollar Tree (everything is a dollar), if it isn't there try Walmart. The white brick of rags are only at Home Depot, Lowes or
  • Several gallons of vinegar, I have found white vinegar works the best and is cheapest to buy
  • Baking Soda
  • Empty Spray Bottles
  • Bounce Dryer Sheets
  • Access to a vacuum cleaner
  • Bag of brick white rags mentioned in the beginning to get them at home depot etc
  • As many small and large bowls as you can get your hands on (you will be filling these half full of vinegar to sit around)
  • Patience and elbow grease
Step1
Time to clean *I am going to try to cover everything in this section for all other sections and we can refer to this for others steps (unless we forget things)
1. For large rooms fill all large bowls with vinegar.
2. Depending on the floors soak at least 20 of the white rags in the vinegar. On carpet/hardwood put down a hard small surface to lay the white rag on. For other floors that are safe such as tile then you may lay it directly on the floor if it isn't safe or you aren't sure then put hard surface underneath it.
3. For cars fill bowls (small ones) 1/4 th of the way full
4. Fill all bottles up with vinegar
Step2
You wouldn't want this to smell of smoke Ok we will start small. A car/truck anything you drive and want the smoke smell out of.
We are going to use a car as an example.
1. First start off by throwing away everything in your car that is trash and everything else take one of the white rags you bought and soaked and wipe them off don't put anything in the car yet.
2. Now take some baking soda and sprinkle it all over the carpet and vacuum. Don't forget to vacuum above you and in every area you can reach. Then gently spray with the bottles of vinegar all over the carpet.
3. Clean the ashtray very well, then never use it again; throw the cig butts out of the car if you must smoke in there. Now if you must use the ashtray put baking soda in there while you are cleaning it about halfway (wait till its dry) then just leave it to put your cigs in afterwards.
4. Clean all of the inside windows with the spray vinegar and paper towels
5. Put all of the small bowls with vinegar in them all over the car, roll all windows up and wait approx. 24 hours then we will...
6. Remove all bowls pour them out, take your car and vacuum it out (only if carpet is dry) put some more baking soda.
7. While driving back from the vacuum site roll all windows down don't smoke and your car should smell like nothing.
8. Put a air freshener/or bounce dryer sheets under the seats in there only if you like them and you are done.
Step3
Corner of a French home, look for the cigarettes in the bottom right corner *We are going to do this as a small project in a bedroom or possibly a living room in a private home that has been smoked in by either a cigarette/pipe/cigar etc. We have 24 hours to get rid of the smell.
1. Open all windows for 6 hours.
2. Set all large bowls in room in all areas, under couches, beds and chairs all furniture.
3. Wipe down with vinegar soaked rags everything in room that is safe to use with vinegar.
4. If carpet in room vacuum with baking soda, if hardwood spray with vinegar diluted half with water and half with vinegar and dust mop after spraying the floor. After vacuuming carpet spray carpet down with spray bottles. Any other floor make sure whatever you use on it is safe.
5. Close the windows and put clean sheets on the beds if its a bedroom. any other room, take vinegar spray bottle and spray everything down. Leave the room.
6. 4 hours before 24 are up, take up all bowls and pour out and rinse, make sure everything is clean and at this point it may be a good idea to open the windows again. (it never hurts to wash the drapes or take them outside to air out)
You are done, now do this to every room that has been smoked in and your home won't smell like everyone who has ever had their home smoked in and smell like a bar.

Tips & Warnings

  • leave a bowl of vinegar in every room of the home hidden under a dresser, couch, anywhere out of site. Change it every week, make sure you rinse it out good and it will cut out the smell of smoke.
  • Open windows as much as possible. If you smoke in your home or someone else does then fresh air is good for you, your family and the smell of your home.
  • Careful where you put these bowls they might get knocked over and leave a stain.
  • Always make sure the surface you are using any substance on will not be damaged if it were used on it.
  • If the room you are using the vinegar on is being used on a room that is rented out, either through your home or a motel/hotel/bed& breakfast, put a sign up that clearly states that if you plan to smoke that vinegar will be used once per week to clean smell out and that it will be unavailable for that time.
