How to Crochet the Love Knot

The love knot stitch, also called the lover's knot or Solomon stitch, is most commonly used to make shawls. It can also be used as an overlay of a dense stitch piece for an interesting effect or as an edging.

Things You'll Need:

• Yarn or crochet thread
• Crochet hook

The Basic Love Kot.

1. Pull up a loop 1/2 inch long.

2. Yarn over and pull through the loop.

3. Single crochet in the strand of the loop.

Making Rows of Love Knots

4. Start with a chain or a chain and one row of single crochet stitches.

5. Begin rows of triple stitches, inserting two love knots in a regular pattern. For every two love knots, skip five stitches of the previous row. Work two more love knots in the same place on the next row, connecting the single stitch in the first knot to the single crochet of the first knot in the previous row.

6. Work a row of single stitches in the next row, chaining five over the love knots.

7. Repeat Steps 2 and 3, inserting the love knots in different locations.

Making a Love Knot Edging

8. Begin with a chain and foundation row of single stitches.

9. Create two love knots, skip five stitches on the previous row and attach the second knot to the sixth stitch. Continue to the end of the row.

10. Turn, create three love knots and attach the third knot to the single crochet of the second love knot of the previous row. Continue to the end of the row. Fasten off.
