Equipment rental for a magic show requires no magic at all, and it's cheaper to rent than to buy what you need. Whether you're a budding Houdini or a seasoned professional on the birthday-party circuit, learn how to get what you need for your magic tricks and keep your money from doing the old disappearing act.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine what equipment your show requires. If you use a table, animals and a mirrored box for your magic tricks, plan to go to three different vendors for these props.

  2. Step 2

Know how much you should spend. In most cases, it's less expensive to rent equipment than it is to buy it, so know how much it would cost to buy everything you need for your magic show.

  3. Step 3

Rent from reputable sources. Safety is paramount, and shoddy equipment leads to accidents. If you don't know how to use something, ask the store personnel to demonstrate its use for you.

  4. Step 4

Be a responsible renter. If you plan to perform your magic tricks on a regular basis, develop a good relationship with the best rental stores in your area. Vendors prefer customers who return their merchandise promptly and in good condition.

  5. Step 5

Haggle if you have to. If you can't find, for instance, a magic wand to rent, but there are plenty for sale, offer to rent one at a fair price. The owner might agree, especially if you offer a deposit or sign a rental contract.

  6. Step 6

Consider the calendar. Summer wedding season and the winter holiday party rush wipe out rental stores' supplies, so reserve your equipment early.
