Pretending to pull your thumb off is a basic magic trick, but it takes skill to make it look realistic. Bend one thumb down and position your other thumb so it faces the proper way. Then slide your hands slightly apart to make it look as if you pulled your thumb away from your hand.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Position your left hand with your thumb is facing up.
Step2
Bend the first finger of your right hand over your right thumb.
Step3
Hide the upper half of your left thumb by folding it down and below your left palm.
Step4
Put your hands together so it appears the first finger on your right hand is wrapped around your left thumb.
Step5
Act as if you're pulling very hard and slide your right hand away from your left, being careful not to go too far.
Step6
Slide your right thumb back against your left hand and act as if you're reattaching it to complete this magic trick. You can pretend to use pressure to force it into position, or screw it back in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice in front of a mirror so you can see if you're keeping your hands in position while performing this magic trick.
  • Pulling your thumb off is a crowd pleaser, particularly among small children.
