How to Do Pig Style Vocals

Pig squeals or "bree"-ing is a form of vocals most commonly used in grindcore metal bands. As opposed to screaming, the squealing technique is done somewhat quietly with a lot of amplification and minimal airflow, either inward, outward (which is a bit easier) or both.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Microphone
  • Amplifier with speakers

Breathing In

Step1
Breathe in slowly while sucking in to add a raspy quality to your throat. Try to create a gargling sound at the throat.
Step2
Have your mouth shaped in a small circle, then opening your mouth up into a joker smile shape while continuing to suck in more air to make the pig squeal
Step3
Manipulate the sound by making different shapes with your tongue and mouth. .
Step4
Exaggerate the sound by sucking in the air at different speeds.

Breathing Out

Step1
Take a deep breath and breathe out slowly while using your throat to simulate a gargling effect.
Step2
Press your tongue on top of your mouth to get a sound more like the sound of a squealing pig.
Step3
Put more air pressure into your throat by forcing air with you stomach. This produces more exaggerated sounds.
Step4
Use different methods of shaping your mouth and tongue to manipulate different sounds.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a microphone and amplifier to properly pull off this vocal style.
  • Stop using this vocal style if your vocal cords feel strained.
