Your daughter wants a pair of red glitter shoes just like Dorothy’s in the “Wizard of Oz,” but you can’t find a pair in the stores. You can easily add some crimson dazzle to an old pair of her shoes and turn them into a fashion statement any little girl would be proud to make.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat slippers or Mary Jane shoes
  • Newspapers
  • Craft glue or rubber cement
  • Spreading stick
  • Red glitter
  • Red sequins and other red embellishments (optional)
  • Clear polyurethane spray paint
  1. Step 1

Clean the shoes and let them air dry. Stuff the shoes with newspapers or tissue. Cover your workplace with newspapers.

  2. Step 2

Spread glue over the shoe in a thin coat. Generously sprinkle the red glitter all over the shoe and let it set into the glue. Smooth any lumps of glitter and shake off any excess. Let the shoes dry.

  3. Step 3

Repeat Step 3 if the glitter didn’t adhere properly or if parts of the original shoe color show through. Let the shoes dry thoroughly.

  4. Step 4

Apply red sequins and other red embellishments, such as ribbons, if you like. Use the craft glue or rubber cement to attach them. Let them dry.

  5. Step 5

Shake the clear polyurethane spray paint can well. Take the shoes outside or to some other well-ventilated area. Spray them with a light coat of clear paint. Let the paint dry and spray them again. When this coat is dry, let your little one click her heels together to see where her magic shoes take her.
