How to Paint Warhammer Models
Warhammer is an online and table-top role playing gaming community. The Warhammer game devises scenarios in which warring tribes from different technologies and different eras compete for dominance on individual, custom created battlefields. Players often purchase and paint intricate resin miniatures of their characters, such as orcs, trolls, giants, tanks, and Medieval artillery to move about the battlefield as they initiate campaigns, and attempt to conquer the world.
Things You'll Need
- Warhammer resin model figurines
- Testors model paint
- Assortment of fine tipped natural hair paint brushes
- Q-tip swabs
- Paint thinner
- Spray paint primer.
- Newspapers, or cardboard

1
Spread out a few sections of old newspaper or pieces of cardboard to protect the work surface. Spilled model paint does not clean up easily, and will not come out of fabrics.
-
2
Spray a light coating of neutral color gray primer on the figurines. This may or may not be necessary. Poly-resin figurines do not need to be primed. Cast metal figurines will need priming.

3
Pick a color scheme for your troops. When painting multiple pieces which make up the members of a single army, a consistent color scheme will help identify these pieces from other players on the board.
-
4
Apply the base primary colors to the model figurines first. As the figurines are painted, accenting colors will be placed on top of the base colors in order to achieve a 3D realistic painted effect. Paint the larger surface areas first, and then leave the fine details for the final steps.
-
5
Clean the paint brush in paint thinner for solvent-based paints or a warm soapy water for acrylic-based paints in between the each paint color. Allow the paintbrush to dry completely when changing colors. Allow individual colors on the pieces to dry before applying the next color.
-
6
Using fine-tipped paint brushes, paint color accents and details on your miniature figurines. Use the textured surface of the model figures to your advantage as you paint realistic details. For example, Warhammer figurines feature fully detailed uniforms including belts, shields, and raised details for armor. By applying accent colors last with a fine tipped paint brush, you will be able to highlight figurine details on the raised surfaces.
