How to Repurpose Your Old Fish Tank
Fish tanks come in a variety of sizes and configurations. If you no longer have any fish and are wondering what to do with that old tank, or if you want to get a tank but don't want to use it to support fish, it's time to get creative. Depending on the size of the tank, there are many possibilities. Here are a few imaginative suggestions.

1
Turn the old aquarium or fish bowl into a terrarium. A terrarium is basically a clear glass container filled with small plants. Open terrariums provide a higher level of humidity, and a covered aquarium is perfect for plants that require more humidity. Baby tears and Begonias would work well in a closed environment, while Asparagus fern and Croton grow well in the open containers. Plan your terrarium carefully, purchasing the correct soil, drainage material and plants for the type you will create.

2
Plant an Herb Garden. Growing herbs indoors year round can add flavor to your recipes and wonderful aromas to your household.

3
Turn a larger tank into a coffee table. After cleaning it, spread river rocks along the bottom and place the tank on the floor. Embed silk greens into the rocks. Cut a piece of wood just larger than the tank opening. Stain or paint it to match your décor, after slightly sanding any rough edges. Cover the tank with the wood piece, and your coffee table is done.

Use the aquarium as a lighted display case for your collectibles. Set the tank in an appropriate spot in your home. Line the bottom with a piece of wood cut to size and display your items for all to see.

Fill your old fish bowls with river rocks, marbles or beads and center a pillar candle in the middle. Fill partially with water to nourish fresh flowers or plant cuttings. In the bath, use an old fish bowl to hold guest soaps or potpourri. If you love crafts, use fish bowls to hold beads, yarn or thread by color. For the holidays, fill with same color ornaments and white lights for an elegant decoration.
