How to Cover a Laptop Screen for Privacy

Protecting your information from prying eyes is important if you sometimes work in a public space. There are a variety of screening options available to suit any laptop computer. From sheets that you apply directly to your laptop screen, to visors that slip over the top of your opened laptop, select the one that works best for you.

  • Choose a removable filter that fits your screen. Attach 4 to 6 clips to the frame of your laptop by removing the paper from the adhesive backing and securing the clips in place. The film then slides between the clips and your screen.

  • Consider a laptop privacy screen that slides over the top of your laptop's monitor. Similar to filters used on desktops, these filters have small "L"-shaped brackets that go over the top of your open laptop to secure the filter into place.

  • Opt for a screen hood. This three-sided device has two side walls and a roof that make it impossible for anyone to see your computer screen from any angle, even directly behind you.

  • Measure your computer screen to ensure you purchase a properly sized privacy screen. Take portability into account if you travel extensively.
