Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Small wooden box with clasp
- Decoupage glue
- Crafter's glue
- Photographs
- Stickers of your choice
- Jewelry or other items for jewelry box
Step1
Buy a small wooden box or two from your local craft or big retail chain store. There usually is an aisle in a craft store dedicated to wooden boxes. You will also need decoupage glue and crafter's glue for the photos. Stickers are optional.
Step2
The wooden boxes are not colored, but natural. If you want to change the color, purchase the color paint you want while at the craft store. The photo above shows the brown color the box was first painted in, but the color was changed to a whitewash.
Step3
Because the wooden boxes are so small, size of this next photo also had to be reduced. To do that, use a word processing software program that allows you to upload photos for your file. Once the photos upload, left-click on the image and a format picture dialog box will pop up.
Now, you will need to resize the photo by clicking on the layout tab and clicking on the Behind Text box. This will enable you to move your photo anywhere on the word processing page and resize the image to fit your wooden box.
Step4
Once your images are the right size to glue to your wooden box, cut the photos, turn them over and place crafter's glue on the backside on each. In this photo, the images are spread out on a towel, ready to be brushed with glue.
Step5
Place the photos containing the glue anywhere you want them on the wooden box.
Step6
With a black craft brush, rub the decoupage glue over the top of each photo. Depending on how "cracked" you want the photos to look, add more or less glue to each photo. It usually takes about a week for the decoupage glue to show its effects.
Step7
With your jewlery box complete, you can add small jewlery pieces to the inside, baby silverware or other items. This jewlery box is small and just perfect for little baby girl's jewlery pieces. You can line the box with velvet to keep your jewelry from turning.
