It's not always possible to find a stud to drill in to when you want to hang pictures, wall art or shelving on your wall. Drywall anchors allow you to hang objects without drilling in to a stud, and they're rated to varying weights. Select the correct one based on the weight of the object you're hanging and follow these easy steps to install a 90 lb. wall anchor.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  • Anchor
  • Screwdriver, cordless drill or hammer drill
  • Screw
  1. Step 1

Determine what type wall you have. Different densities in building materials affect how much load the wall can bear.

  2. Step 2

    Select your anchor.

  3. Step 3

Decide where you want to hang your object. Make a small mark on the wall with a pencil so you know where to install your anchor.

  4. Step 4

Check to see if your anchor requires a pilot hole. Refer to the directions on the package and drill a pilot hole if needed.

  5. Step 5

Insert anchor in drywall using a screwdriver or drill. Put the tip of the screwdriver or drill in to the anchor and push into the wall while screwing it in. Stop when anchor is flush with the wall.

Tips & Warnings
  • Although anchors are rated to hold specified amounts of weight, give yourself room for error. Assume your anchor will hold 1/4 of the stated weight without any problem. When in doubt, it is better to install an extra anchor.
  • Never try to mount anything on damp drywall.
