Camping is a beloved and treasured activity among millions of families worldwide. Nothing promotes togetherness quite like roughing it in the wilderness for a few days, miles away from anything resembling civilization. It's a good time to get to know each other and to have some old-fashioned family fun. That's why so many families go camping as a Father's Day tradition. You can start your own family camping tradition for Father's Day.

Things You'll Need:

  • Campsite
  • Camping reservations
  1. Step 1

Ask your father whether he would like to go camping for Father's Day. After all, there's no point in organizing a camping trip if the guest of honor isn't interested.

  2. Step 2

Research camp grounds within a 100 mile radius of your house. Father's Day camping trips usually are for a weekend only, so you don't want to go too far from home.

  3. Step 3

Pick the campground with the facilities, amenities, natural features and price that you prefer. Find out whether you need to make reservations to camp there and make those reservations (if required) at least a month in advance of your trip.

  4. Step 4

Decide on a list of activities the family will definitely participate in while on the camping trip. This may include a hike to a well-known scenic spot, a hot dog cookout, telling stories around the campfire or swimming in a certain pond or river. Make sure everyone in the family agrees on these activities.

  5. Step 5

Come up with one special activity just for Dad. Ask him what he wants to do the most on the camping trip and then set the wheels in motion to make it happen.

Tips & Warnings
  • Before you start a camping tradition for Father's Day, make sure this is a viable activity for everyone in your family. People with certain disabilities, allergies or phobias may not do well on camping trips. It's important for Father's Day traditions to include everyone, so don't organize a trip that's going to leave anyone out of the fun.
  • If your family loves the camping trip, you can repeat it year after year as a Father's Day tradition. If some kinks need to be worked out, such as location or activities, you can change them in subsequent years, slowly developing your tradition until it becomes perfect.
  • Any family can start a Father's Day camping tradition, no matter how old the children are. Whether the children are young or grown up with children of their own, an annual Father's Day camping trip is an excellent way for everyone to bond and get to know each other again.
