Step1
Draft a winning press release to alert the local media of your new, groundbreaking exhibition. Sometimes it is hard to write about your own work objectively, so consider hiring a professional writer or asking a close friend with strong writing abilities to take on the task.
Step2
Once you have written the press release, distribute it to the media via email, fax or post. To find our where to direct your press release, call the main line of the newspaper or magazine, where a receptionist can give you all the information you need. Many times, this information is also listed in the print publication or online.
Step3
After you have sent the press release to the newspapers, consider going viral with your mini marketing campaign. Create a profile or online group on a social networking site with information about the opening, including pictures, and send it to all your friends. Ask them to pass it along, and before you know it, news of the opening will have spread far and wide.
Step4
Now that you have used the Internet to spread the word, consider an old fashioned method and send out postcards with your exhibition information to all of your associates. Have extra printed so that you can leave small piles at artsy venues like local coffee shops, funky boutiques and artist studio buildings.
Step5
On the day of the opening, post a few professional-looking signs around the gallery or studio with event information. Before you know it, the crowds will be wandering in to peruse your show.
