What if you've designed a 60-page book and want to view two pages at a time? Follow this 7-step process to view pages side by side for easier editing.

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe InDesign CS2
  • Windows XP

    Create Facing Pages in New Document

  1. Step 1

    A spread is a page or group of pages that you view onscreen without using the vertical scrollbar. Multi-page spreads are arranged side-by-side. Multi-page spreads are often used when designing books, magazines, brochures and maps. The "Pages" palette allows you to manipulate the appearnce of spreads onscreen.

  2. Step 2

    Open the "New Document" window from the "File" menu or "Welcome" screen.

  3. Step 3

    In the "New Document" window, type 60 in the "Number of Pages" field. Select "Letter" from the "Page Size" field. Place a checkmark in the "Facing Pages" field. Click "OK."

  5. Step 1

    Open an existing multi-page Adobe InDesign document from the "File" menu or "Welcome" screen.

  6. Step 2

    Select "Pages" from the Window menu to open the "Pages" palette.

  7. Step 3

    In this example, you want to create a 4-page spread. In the "Pages" palette, click to highlight the first page in the spread. Click the menu arrow (upper-right) to display the menu options in the "Pages" palette. Select "Keep Spread Together."

  8. Step 4

    Double-click and drag page number two, and release it next to page number one. Repeat this action for the third and forth pages until all four pages appear in the spread side-by-side.

Tips & Warnings
  • The "Pages" palettte menu arrow (top-right) includes options to add, delete and move pages in a spread.
