How to Buy Vintage Surfboards

With a little bit of research, you can find all brands of vintage surf boards, including Wardys, Diffenderfer, Phil Edwards Honolulu, Morey Pope, Carl Ekstrom, Gordon & Smith, Hansen, Surfboards Hawaii, Dick Brewer and Hobie. Follow these steps to buy vintage surfboards.

  1. Step 1

    Go online in search for surfboard dealers who also sell vintage boards. Chubby Surf, for instance, has sold more than 7,000 surfboards nationwide (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Click on "Vintage," along the left side of the Chubby Surf homepage. Scroll down and see various vintage surfboards that are for sale.

  3. Step 3

    Read the ratings posted in the vintage board descriptions. Chubby Surf gives every board a number between 1 and 10--10 being the best quality and condition.

  4. Step 4

    Left click on the "inquire on this item" tab. Wait for the company to get back to you regarding the vintage surfboard. They'll let you know if it's available then you can buy it and have is shipped to your home.

  5. Step 5

    Ask Chubby Surf if you're looking for a particular surfboard. The company has knowledge about all shapes and sizes of surfboards. Email the company with questions.

  6. Step 6

    Go to Cheater Five's website to buy, sell or trade vintage surfboards (see Resources below). There are boards from the 1950s 1960s, 1970s and 1980s available. Call (800) 613-9817.

  7. Step 7

    Look through the inventory and click on the board you're interested in. This company also rates the boards condition on a scale of 1 to 10.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you see a vintage surfboard you like on Chubby surf's website, order it as soon as possible. They work on a first-come-first-serve basis.
