Things You'll Need:
- Cardboard box
- Tape
- Wrapping paper
- Scissors
- Small purse for the bride (optional)
- Small notepad and pen
-
Step 1
Create a box where guests can insert cards. Begin by finding a medium sized cardboard box. It should be approximately large enough to fit a food processor or similarly sized appliance. Tape the box securely closed.
-
Step 2
Decorate the box with pretty wrapping paper that's appropriate for a wedding. You may want to use dark, single colored paper so that guests can easily distinguish the card box from the other presents.
-
Step 3
Cut a large slot in top of the box that's big enough for a guests to easily slip in a greeting card.
-
Step 4
Place the decorated box prominently on the gift table before the wedding so that they understand that this is the place to insert cards (most of which will include cash or checks).
-
Step 5
Make sure someone keeps a close watch on the gift table and the card box. If you've hired a security guard, this will be taken care of. If not, ask several people to take turns keeping an eye out for thieves.
-
Step 6
Designate a secure location to place checks and money that are handed to you. The bride may choose to carry around a small purse for this purpose. If not, assign someone in the bridal party to be in charge of keeping the money until the wedding is over. A groomsman can hold the money in his pocket, or a bridesmaid can carry around a purse for this function.
-
Step 7
Graciously accept any cards that guests hand you. Discreetly insert them into the box, or hand them to a parent or bridal party member and ask them to insert the card.
-
Step 8
Graciously accept any checks that guests hand you. Do not look at the amount on the check. If the bride has a purse, slip the check discreetly in the purse. If not, bring the check to the designated location.
-
Step 9
Graciously accept any money that guests hand you. Do not count the money. The bride should slip the money into her purse, or it should be placed in the designated location. In addition, have a small pad of paper nearby in a discreet location to write down who gave you money, so you can use this information in the thank-you notes. Writing down the amount from each guest is optional.
