Making your own Christmas postcards can be a fun and creative way to share photos with family members and friends this holiday season. It is much more personal than sending a manufactured card and much more likely to be kept and treasured. Get everyone in your home gathered around the computer and make Christmas postcards a family tradition.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer and color printer
  • Photo editor and project maker (Photoshop, Photo Suite, Corel, Microsoft Works)
  • Card stock or blank postcards
  • Digital pictures or scanned pictures and festive holiday clipart

Step1
Create a project in your photo editor or project maker that is 6 by 4 inches. This will be the front of your postcard.
Step2
Add you holiday clipart. In the example above, I added clipart of a wreath and a festive greeting. You could also make your card say something like, "Happy Holidays from the Jones Family." Personalize!
Step3
How the back of your postcard can look Next, add your photo. In the example I layered my picture underneath the wreath for a fun effect. Play around with your photo and clipart.
Step4
When you are done with the look of the front side of your postcard, start working on the back where you will put the address, message and stamp. Create another project that is 6 by 4 inches. On this project, simply make a line down the middle of the card and add your message and the address. It is nice to make a mini "what we did this year letter" to put on each one instead of a bland greeting.
Step5
To print the card on both sides, set your printer to "print both sides." On this setting, your printer will prompt you on how to feed the card back through to print the other side. Or if you want you can just print the card on both sides without the help of your printer if you find that less confusing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be afraid of using a black and white photo. As you can see from the example it looks quite stunning.
