Making fabric beads is a great rainy day project, and is easy for both kids and adults.

From Quick Guide: Beading Basics
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fabric scraps
  • Multi-purpose glue
  • Water
  • Paper plates
  • Scissors
  • Clear nail polish
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic paint brushes

    How to Make Fabric Beads

  1. Step 1

Cut your fabric into strips of any length and width.

  2. Step 2

Brush the end of your fabric with a generous amount of glue. Then start rolling onto the paint brush handle, at least an inch from the tip. Continue to roll and glue until you come to the end of the strip of fabric.

  3. Step 3

Gently remove bead and allow to dry for at least 24 to 48 hours.

  4. Step 4

Place dried beads onto tip end of paint brushes and apply 2 coats of clear nail polish, allowing the first coat to dry completely.

  5. Step 5

Use same process to varnish the insides of the beads.

Tips & Warnings
  • The size of your bead depends on how long and wide you cut your strips of fabric.
  • Just experiment with your beads and create your own style.
  • Rolling your bead to tightly will cause the center to pull out when you pull it off of the brush.
  • To keep your brush from stiffening during use, rinse with water and wipe dry on a paper towel. Then after use, wash brush in warm soapy water to prevent the bristles from hardening.
