Doesn't every season seem to be "wedding season" nowadays? Depending on your town's weather and availability of flowers, choosing your wedding colors based on the season can be a beautiful way to add a touch of vibrancy to your already-perfect day.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Color palette
  • Weather report
  • Paint swatches
  • Bridesmaid dress swatches
  • Florist
  1. Step 1

Write down the colors that come to mind when you think of the season you're getting married in.

  2. Step 2

Think about your wedding venue (both ceremony and reception venues) and what colors it encompasses. Match those colors to seasonal colors.

  3. Step 3

Search for items that may encompass a color you really like. For example, if you love the red tones that are usually displayed in summer sunsets by the beach, go to Google Images and type in "sunsets" and "beach."

  4. Step 4

Upload any images that contain the color(s) you like to degraeve.com/color-palette or colorhunter.com. These sites will generate color matches and even assist with accent, corresponding or opposite colors.

  5. Step 5

Do a little research to see what colors the experts think will be hot and trendy during that season. Mix and match the colors you like to the season's in-colors.

  6. Step 6

Take some samples or palettes, along with visuals of the dominant colors within your ceremony and reception venues, to a few florists to see what they would recommend. Remember that most florists aren't only experts at flowers, but at color as well, as choosing a flower in the appropriate shade is an important part of their job.

  7. Step 7

Consider your various options and decide on your wedding colors. Coordinate your bridesmaid dresses and flowers to accent or emphasize your seasonal color choices.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you're trying to think of what colors you associate with which seasons it may help to think about what activities you enjoy doing during that time of year. If you love swimming in summer then a lake-colored blue might be a good color. If your thing is carving pumpkins then try to find a shade of orange that reminds you of pumpkins
  • Remember that you don't have to choose colors that are big, bold, end-all-be-all colors. If you like certain seasonal colors but don't want your wedding to scream "This was a fall wedding" use the colors sparingly. Maybe accent fall colors in the bouquet and on the cake but not on the bridesmaid dresses
  • Remember to take any carpet or brightly colored items that your venue might display into consideration when deciding upon wedding colors. For example, if the carpet is red you might not want your bridesmaids to where green, unless you're going for a Christmas-themed wedding
  • Before settling on a color scheme, make sure that you're able to find a color for the bridesmaid dresses that you're happy with. You don't want to get your heart set on having a coral-colored wedding, just to find out that your bridesmaid dress designer only has swatches in tangerine orange and bubblegum pink
