How to Make a Mop
Most store-bought mops wear out and eventually just push around the dirt and grime on your floor. This homemade mop can be washed and lasts for many years when well cared for. This mop is made from items found in most homes. With a little time, you can have a homemade mop that works better than most store-bought brands. Does this Spark an idea?

Lay your towel on a flat surface. Cut 1 to 2 inches around the outside, removing any hems.

Fold the towel in half and cut it down the middle. Cut both pieces of the towel into strips that are 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide.

Cut four small grooves around the bottom of the handle. They need to be about 2 inches from the end of the handle and then about 1/2 inch apart from each other.

Place the strips flat on a table with their sides overlapping. Place one of the hemmed edges you removed in step 1 about 3 inches from the end of the strips. The hem needs to lie underneath the strips and must be perpendicular to the strips.

Lay the mop handle onto the strips. The end of the handle must line up with the edge of the strips and hem. When you attach it this way, the towel strips fold over to create the mop when the handle turns upright. Wrap the strips around the mop handle as many times as needed. The simplest way to do this is to tuck the hemmed strip under the handle and roll the handle across the stripped pieces.

Wrap the wire around the handle and the strips. Use the grooves you cut out in step 3 as a guide to place the wire.

Flip the mop over so it is upright. Tie another hemmed edge around the outside of the mop to hold it in place. Make sure the knot is tight. Shake the mop to make sure everything is attached.

Tips & Warnings
To wash the mop, remove the hemmed strip and the wire and throw the towel strips into the washing machine. Reassemble the mop once the strips are dry.
