Instructions

Enroll in the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System Program.

  1. Step 1

Gather the following information prior to enrollment: social security number, routing information for your bank or other financial institution, and your name and address. Include your spouse's information if you're married and filing jointly.

  2. Step 2

Visit the electronic federal tax payment system enrollment program online (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

Fill out the online enrollment form completely. Remember to double check all the information entered.

  4. Step 4

Wait 10 to 15 days for the enrollment information to arrive by mail at the address you listed in the tax records. If the information does not arrive in the specified period, please call the IRS to verify there was no problem with the enrollment.

  5. Pay the Federal Income Tax.

  6. Step 1

Gather all the appropriate forms that detail the tax pertinent information for the year. Usually all the individual needs is a W2 form or 1099. However, if there is additional income or allowable deductions those relevant forms should be included.

  7. Step 2

Fill out the forms and determine how much tax you owe, if any. You might hire a professional to do this.

  8. Step 3

Assemble the following information: Social security number (SSN), Personal identification number (PIN), and password. The PIN and password were included in your enrollment package.

  9. Step 4

Go to federal income tax payment website. Click the "Make a Payment" button on the home page.

  10. Step 5

Choose the type of federal tax that is to be paid. Next, follow the prompts and enter in the appropriate information.

  11. Step 6

Print out the electronic fund payment acknowledgement once the process is complete. This is essentially the receipt for the taxes you just paid.
