Be a hit at the next baby shower with a handcrafted diaper cake. Follow these easy instructions to make your own.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 50-70 newborn-size diapers
  • Hot glue gun
  • 20 straight pens
  • 3 yards of 1 ½ -2 inch-wide, colored ribbon
  • Assorted small baby items (i.e. pacifier, teething ring, safety pins and/or small bottle)
  • Small Plush Toy (or other small toy, such as a rubber duck)
  1. Step 1

Make a base for the bottom layer of diapers. Use something to which you can glue the first diaper, such as a toilet paper roll. Attach the first diaper to the base by hot glue.

  2. Step 2

Hold the base steady and as you overlap and very tightly pack each diaper to the base, one at a time with the folded end facing out. Make sure at least one inch of each diaper is showing.

  3. Step 3

Use straight pens to help keep diapers attached and tight.

  4. Step 4

When all diapers are positioned, tightly wrap ribbon around the middle of the layer. Secure with both hot glue and straight pens.

  5. Step 5

For the second layer, roll up one diaper and use it as a base. Glue the first diaper to the base with the folded end facing out.

  6. Step 6

Repeat steps from first layer, tightly packing each diaper in and using straight pens for security. Show at least two inches of each diaper. The radius of the second layer should be about three inches smaller than the bottom layer.

  7. Step 7

When all diapers are positioned, tightly wrap ribbon around the middle of the layer. Secure with both hot glue and straight pens.

  8. Step 8

Put second layer on top of bottom layer. Make a simple bow from the extra ribbon and hot glue to the second layer.

  9. Step 9

Using straight pens and small amounts of hot glue, attach baby items onto cake. Place the plush toy on top and secure with straight pens.

Tips & Warnings
  • For the first layer of diapers, you may also need an extra set of hands to keep the base tight.
