Step1
Go to the open casting call being held in Los Angeles on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The casting call will take place at NBC Studios, Rehearsal Hall 1, 3000 W. Alameda Ave., Burbank. The line will form outside the main studio lobby, on the north side of NBC Studios. Another casting call will be scheduled for December, so check the NBC website often.
Step2
If you can't make the open call, you should download and print the 36-page application package currently available on the NBC website. To find it, go to the NBC website and look for "Extras" in the top bar of the homepage. Click on that and then click on "Casting." You'll see a list of NBC shows that includes "My Dad."
Step3
Begin by filling out the monstrous application, which includes a separate application for the Dad and one for the child. Kids must be between the ages of 8 and 13 to be eligible for the show. The applications include questions about jobs, hobbies, fears and talents. They also ask both Dad and child to list three supporters they would like to accompany them on the show. Interesting...
Step4
Along with the application forms, you must submit a "certification of veracity" for both father and child, and a parental consent form, all of which are part of the application. In addition, producers want you to submit at least one photo of each of you and a photo of the two of you together. NBC would also like all father contenders to submit their resume.
Step5
If you can't make a casting call, you are required to make a five-minute videotape of yourselves. The video should be "a tour of your lives," and should include action and possible scenes from Dad's job, scenes of your hobbies together, and scenes about the town you live in. Make the video fun and tell the audience about your personalities. It must be created only by the applicants, and no music or singing is allowed.
Step6
Mail the entire package, which should include the application, photos and video, to:
