It is easy to make your color photographs really stand out with Adobe Photoshop using filters. Follow these easy steps to create photographs with eye-popping color.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Scan your photograph, save it and open the image in Photoshop.
Step2
Add a layer to your photograph. To do that, go to the pull-down Layer Menu. Select “New” and “Layer.” In the pop-up menu, give your layer a name, such as “Background Layer” or “Layer Copy.” Make the Color “None,” the Mode “Normal,” and the Opacity 100%. Click OK.
Step3
Open your Layers Window, by going to the pull-down Window Menu and select “Layers.”
Step4
In that window, select your layer copy by clicking on it in the Layers window. In the pull-down menu under Layers within that window, select the “Overlay” filter. You will notice this dramatically changes the colors in your photograph.
Step5
Next to the "Overlay" filter within the Layers window, there is an Opacity adjustment tool. Drag it back and forth to create more subtle, or more eye popping color distinctions. Save your image!

on 1/9/2008 What you are essentially doing with this method is to increase the saturation of the image. It may be easier to just adjust the saturation with an Image Adjustment.
