How to Use The Diffuse Glow Filter Effect in Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop has fourteen different categories of special effect filters. They are easy to use and allow the user to completely change and enhance an image. The DIFFUSE GLOW special effect allows you to alter the subject matter of your image with a glow. Like most of the filters it comes with a special control panel that allows you to control the amount of artistic effect.

Things You'll Need

• Adobe Photoshop 6.0 or later running on a MAC or PC Computer
• A copy of an image for editing.

Instructions

1. 

   Open your saved image in Adobe Photoshop. Once you have opened the image, select FILTER/DISTORT/DIFFUSE GLOW to open the control panel. You can control the grain, glow amount and clear amount. Clear amount is the amount of the image that will remain clear and glow amount is the amount of the image that will glow.

2. 

   Adjust the sliders and observe the effect in the preview window. Use the PLUS and MINUS controls to see the effect in small area or over the entire image. When you have the effect you want, click OK.

3. 

   The image will render after you hit OK and you will see the image displayed in the Photoshop image window. Sometimes the image doesn't look as good when you see it in full size and additional adjustments will have to be made.

4. 

   We felt the first image was a little to dark, so we adjusted clear amount and re rendered the image.

Tips & Warnings

• Experiment and have fun with the effects. You are creating an artistic version of your photograph, so it may take some time.

• Select a photograph that is not perfect and will be improved by the diffuse glow effect.

• Remember to step backward in the history panel if you decide to start over.
