How to Alter a Book Made From One Sheet of Paper

Add elements and alterations to a book that was made from one sheet of paper. Use mixed media art applications to manipulate each page. This is a quick and kid-friendly project.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    This step will strengthen the binding.

    Use masking tape to cover over the book’s stitching. Wrap the tape around both inside and outside. Refold the pages so a creased binding is created.

  2. Step 2
    This step gives more interested to the deckled edging.

    Rub distress ink all over the edges of each page of the book, including the front and back cover.

  3. Step 3
    This step creates a sturdy cover.

    Add a piece of navy blue cardstock (yes, this color is optional) to the cover of the book so it wraps around the spine.

  4. Step 4
    This step rids artist's of the artist block associated with a plain white page.

    Add torn book pages to every page throughout the book.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add distress ink to the edges of the cardstock.
  • Add distress ink to the edges of the book pages.
  • Don’t use a wet adhesive because it’s too slippery and will cause the book to buckle.
  • Be sure the distress ink is dry before moving on to the next step to prevent smearing.
