Unless you purchase custom-made miniblinds for your windows, chances are you must shorten your new miniblinds. Most packaged miniblinds come very long; of course, you can opt to keep them long and simply roll them up to the desired length. Shorten your miniblinds to create a nicer, cleaner look for your windows.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Remove the plastic plugs from the bottom rail, releasing the string ladders. You can find the lift cord on either side knotted inside the bottom rail. Undo the knots.

  2. Step 2

Measure window for desired length. Remove bottom rail and number of slats you need to get the miniblind to the measured length by sliding out of the loops of the string ladders. Discard slats.

  3. Step 3

Shorten string ladder to a length just above the last rung beneath the bottom rail, leaving enough to insert them into the holes on the bottom rail. Slip bottom rail through string ladder loops. Slide lift cord into holes, and tie into a knot to secure bottom rail.

  4. Step 4

Adjust the length of the miniblind by lowering or raising the knots in the lift cord, not by pulling on the cord. Make sure cords are even and that the bottom rail is straight when you hang the miniblinds.

  5. Step 5

Re-insert bottom rail plugs, making sure the string ladders are inside the holes. The plugs hold the strings in place. Use a rubber mallet to secure the plugs. Hang the blinds by one of your windows to make sure they are straight. Adjust, if necessary.
