How to Use Banner Advertising on Websites

Banner ads are those flashing rectangular advertisements that make you feel like you're on the Las Vegas strip when you view a website. Many companies will pay for each click on their banner ad from your website. It's great, cost-effective advertisement, and it draws traffic to websites. There are several websites that will create free or low-cost banners.

  1. Step 1

    Search for websites that will create your banner for free or for a small fee. Visit Quick Banner or Top Site Guide's Animated Banner Creator.

  2. Step 2

    Create your banner ad, or have it created by a graphic designer. The three types of banners are flash, GIF and static.

  3. Step 3

    Decide how you're going to pay your affiliates. Most companies pay per click, but you can pay per impression or a flat rate.

  4. Step 4

    Place your banner on your website, and ask other website owners to display it on their site. Sometimes people will do a banner exchange with you.

  5. Step 5

    Pay a site owner to display your banner ad.

  6. Step 6

    Join a banner exchange program, such as 1800 Banner Exchange or Trade Banner Ads.

  • You can track the traffic from your banner ads so you can adjust your advertising strategy.
  • The average click rate for banner ads is much lower now than it was a few years ago.
