- Difficulty:
- Moderate
Instructions
- White tiles
- 220 grit sandpaper
- Bonding primer for tile
- Oil based paint
- Stencils or stamps
- Acrylic paint
- Felt
- Hot glue gun
-
-
1
Decide on a theme. You can use stamps, stencils or freehand to decorate the best drink coasters for your home.
-
2
Purchase white square tiles at a local hardware or home decorating store. These make for great coasters because they are durable and are plenty big enough.
-
3
Clean tiles of any dust or dirt from sitting on shelves at the store.
-
4
Sand tiles with 220 grit sandpaper until the shine has been removed.
-
5
Wipe away all the dust from sanding and make sure that the gloss has been roughed up. This is very important because the paint won't stick to the originally glossy finish that was on the tile.
-
6
Repeat sanding and wiping until the tile is ready.
-
7
Prime the tiles with a bonding primer designed especially for tile and allow them to dry completely.
-
1
Paint a base color onto tiles using oil-based paint. Allow to dry completely.
-
2
Stamp, stencil or freehand your design using acrylic paints.
-
3
Cut squares of felt a bit smaller than the tile squares for a non-slip bottom to your drink coaster that also keeps the tile from scratching surfaces.
-
4
Glue the felt onto the bottom of the tile with a hot glue gun.
-
5
Wait about a week to use your newly decorate drink coasters.
