How to Make Water Color Paint

You can take the fun of watercoloring a step further by making your own water color paint. This craft will also save money and give you the satisfaction of a task accomplished. Make them with the kids for a special craft project--your kids will love using the paints they helped make. Follow the steps below to make your own water color paint.

    Things You'll Need

    • Small containers or bowls
    • Baking soda
    • Vinegar
    • Glycerin
    • Corn starch
    • Food color
    • Bottle caps or very small containers

        Combine baking soda and vinegar in a small bowl or container.

        Wait until the baking soda and the vinegar have stopped foaming and bubbling. Add glycerin and cornstarch and mix until thoroughly combined.

        Add food coloring to the mixture to get the desired color of water color paint. Mix well.

        Scoop the mixture into a bottle cap or very small container and let dry overnight before use.

        Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for each different color of water color paint.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Use Kool-Aid for very intense colors of water color paint. It will also smell good!

    • To make secondary colors of green, purple and orange, mix primary colors, red, yellow and blue in various combinations.

    • Don't panic when these handmade water color paints crumble more than the store bought variety. The color will be the same, if not better.
