Crafts keep little hands and imaginations busy. Some crafts can even take adults back to their youth. Whether you're looking for a little nostalgia or a rainy day project for your children, paper bag puppets are fun to make--and play with.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lunch-sized paper bag
  • Markers or crayons
  • Colored paper (optional)
  • Pom-poms (optional)
  • Yarn (optional)
  • Pipe cleaners (optional)
  • Glue made for crafts

Imagine Your Paper Bag as a Puppet

  1. Step 1

Keep your bag folded. Lay it down on the table so that the opening is pointing toward you. The opening of the bag is where your children will insert their hands.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the bottom of the paper bag, which is folded over, is facing you. This part will become your puppets face.

  3. Step 3

Find the fold below the part of your paper bag that will become the face. The fold is the puppet's mouth. The upper lip will be on top of the fold. The lower lip will be on the below the fold.

  4. Step 4

Figure out where the inside of your puppet's mouth is. This is the part of the bag that is covered when the bottom of the bag is folded over.

  5. Step 5

Locate the rest of the puppet's body. Everything below the folded over bottom flap is the puppet's body.

  6. Design Your Puppet

  7. Step 1

Start by giving your puppet eyes and a nose. Remember the face of your puppet is actually the bottom of your paper bag.

  8. Step 2

Have your children draw the upper lip on top of the mouth fold. An upper lip usually looks like the top half of a heart.

  9. Step 3

Draw the lower lip on the body of the bag, below the mouth fold.

  10. Step 4

Give your puppet hair. You can use pipe cleaners, colored paper, yarn or another material. Glue the hair in place.

  11. Step 5

Color the inside of your puppet's mouth. You can add a tongue or anything else.

  12. Step 6

Give your puppet some clothes. Remember everything below the lower lip is your puppet's body. You can color clothes on with crayons, or you can glue on material instead.

  13. Step 7

Put your hand in the puppet and have fun.
