How to Organize a Magic Show

Organization can make or break a magic show. You should plan every detail of the show so thay you always know what your next move will be. If you keep the show moving along, you'll succeed even if you occasionally flub a trick.

  1. Step 1

    Decide which tricks you will perform. Stick with the tricks you are comfortable with and those which will be appropriate and appealing for your audience. Children's shows should have shorter, more eye-popping tricks, but adults may appreciate long tricks with more jokes and monologues by the magician.

  2. Step 2

    Use only your best tricks that you have practiced the most. You want to make sure your magic show is performed flawlessly.

  3. Step 3

    Perform your best tricks at the beginning and at the end of your show. Perform tricks that take a longer to perform in the middle.

  4. Step 4

    Use your quick sleight-of-hand tricks at the beginning of your show to razzle-dazzle your audience. You can perfrom the occasional quick sleight-of-hand during select moments throughout your performance to cover any lulls.

  5. Step 5

    Set up your stage with your props. Bring along extras of all the essential items you need in case something gets misplaced or broken.

  6. Step 6

    Make sure you have adequate lighting and enough space for everyone to move around. Keep in mind that some of your tricks may require two or three members of the audience to join you on stage.

  7. Step 7

    Perform each trick once, even if you mess it up. Your audience will likely forget your error if you move on quickly.

  8. Step 8

    Practice your tricks and what you will say. Take note of your timing and have a few extra tricks ready in case you move along faster than you expected. Practice your tricks in front of friends and ask someone to keep time for you.

  9. Step 9

    Hire an assistant to help you set up and keep the show moving along if you are performing many complicated tricks or have a long show planned.
