A blog meme can be a fun exercise that's very much like a game of tag in the blogosphere. It can do several things including: be thought provoking, give you something to write about on your blog, involve others in an online game and create traffic on your blog.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Think of an idea of something to start your meme about. Memes are most often a series of questions. Here are a few examples: Name five things about yourself no one would typically guess; Name your five favorite books.

A blog meme can be about anything.

  2. Step 2

Write an entry in your blog answering the questions and identifying the blog entry as a meme.

  3. Step 3

Tell the rules of the meme in your blog entry. The rules are your own to make up but generally, a meme will identify a question, answer the question and suggest rules for others to participate in the meme. The rules might be that you 1) answer the question, 2)Give credit to the originating blow and 3) Link your answers to the original blog and 4)Tag new people to participate.

  4. Step 4

Tag others to join the meme. This is often done by creating a link to their blog in the meme blog entry. To create a link, write the following statement with the link to the person's blog embedded. In this example, the ehow.com website is used:
I tag Ehow to participate in this blog meme.
Use (a href=http://www.ehow.com)ehow (/a) to participate in this meme.
Replace the open bracket with the character < and the closed bracket with the character >

  5. Step 5

Comment on the tagged person's blog, inviting them to visit your blog to participate in the game. This can generate interest from other viewers of the tagged blogs to view your blog as well.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check out the tagged blogs to see how the blog meme evolves. The fun of the meme process is that you generate interest, participate in a fun game where you read others' responses to your questions and see what happens to the original rules as they morph into new ones. It can be a lot of fun.
