1
Select different color construction paper to make the petal parts of the flower. Remind kids that although flowers in nature tend to be hues of yellow, orange, pink and red, they can choose any colors for their handprint flowers.
-
2
Spread the child's hand out on one piece of paper and trace around the fingers, palm and about a half an inch of the wrist. Older children can do this on their own.

3
Stack the different color paper under the one with the handprint and cut them out all at once. This saves a great deal of time and frustration trying to get the child to sit for the tracing process over and over again.
-
4
Teach the child to curl the finger portions of the cutouts around a pencil so that they curl into petals. By curling some tightly and others loose, the flowers will have distinct character.
-
5
Wrap the two edges of the palm together to form a cone with the curled fingers facing outward and tape these two edges together.
-
6
Slide a straw into the center of the cone and staple the two edges of the cutout to the straw.
-
7
Add paper cutout leaves to the straws with tape or staples to make a more festive bouquet.
