Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Black origami paper with a white back

Taking Shape

Step1
Find a medium-sized black sheet of origami paper with a white back.
Step2
Turn the paper white side up. Fold it diagonally, both ways and then unfold it, keeping it white side up.
Step3
Rotate the paper so that it looks like a diamond. Valley fold the top corner to the middle of the diamond.
Step4
Flip the paper over. Valley fold the diagonal edges towards the center. This will make the upper diagonal edges look white with a black diamond at the top of the main diamond.
Step5
Turn the paper over, fold it diagonally from top to bottom and unfold. The mostly white side should be showing.
Step6
Pull the black square out. This will be the penguin's head. Refold along the diagonal line you made in Step 5.
Step7
Reverse-fold the white flap of the penguin's belly in. Do the same on the other side.

Finishing Touches

Step1
Valley fold the penguin's wings toward the chest on both sides. The bottom line of the fold should meet the point of the lower tip. Reverse fold the flap that is sticking out.
Step2
Reverse fold the lower point to make the toes. They should appear to stick out past the belly.
Step3
Squash and press the beak into shape.

Tips & Warnings

  • Valley fold means, to fold the paper toward yourself.
